The seasons are the reverse of the UK with the summer months running from November to February and winter from June to August. As a general rule the southern states are hot and dry during the summer and cool during the winter. Once you get into the tropics i.e. Far North Queensland and the Top End you can expect warm, clear days during the winter months and hot, humid weather during the summer.
