The Taieri Gorge Railway is New Zealand`s longest and largest tourist railway based in Dunedin. Join this prestidious tourist train on a journey through the rugged and spectacular Taieri River Gorge, across wrought iron viaducts and through tunnels carved by hand more than 100 years ago. With full commentary, photographic stops and on board refreshments the train offers year round, all-weather entertainment. Seats are allocated in either modern carriages, with air conditioning, tables and panoramic windows or traditional character carriages (1915 - 1925), with opening windows, single and couple seating, and seats facing the direction of travel. Light foods, wines, ales and spirits, hot or cold beverages and souvenirs are available from the snack bar car. Whilst in the quiet country town of Middlemarch enjoy a beer at the pub, latte at the café or simply stroll around the township and shop for local crafts before boarding the train for your return journey to Dunedin.
