Further Highlights There are over 50 restaurants on Roratonga alone – there is a saying on the cook islands “we live to eat, not eat to live”.
Visa Information Visa is required for stays of longer than 6 months. Stays of 31 days require valid passport and return ticket. Extensions are available for up to 3 or 5 months for an additional fee.
Weather The Cook Islands does not have a rainy season - the islands enjoy beautiful weather all year round. The best time for visiting is around Christmas/New Year time through to April/May, when the days are longer and flowers are in bloom. Rarotonga is the capital of the cook islands and is like one 32km round resort.
Transport The Rarotongan International airport (Rarotonga) is 4.5km from Avarua. There are regular buses travelling clockwise and anti-clockwise around the island (hourly during the day) throughout the week.
Currency The Cook Islands unit of currency is the New Zealand Dollar.
Health, Hygiene and Safety There is a well equipped hospital in Rarotonga and smaller clinics and hospitals in surrounding islands. |
